Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta better known as Lady Gaga was born March 28, 1986; she is of Italian heritage.
She is a native of Yonkers and attended Convent of the Sacred Heart, an all-girl Catholic school in Manhattan Lady GaGa went on to study music at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts at the age of 17.
She played piano at a young age and started writing her own material in her teens. She began to make a name for herself in 2007 in the club scene in downtown Manhattan. While Lady GaGa was initially signed to Def Jam in 2007 she struggled to make an impact. After being dropped from Def Jam Records at age 19, GaGa began performing in the rock music scene of New York City’s Lower East Side. During this time, she worked at Interscope Records as a songwriter for many acts. One of those acts was Akon, who, after hearing Gaga sing, convinced the powers that be to sign her.
Her debut album was released in August 2008 and was a huge success. It got to number one in four countries. The album’s has had hits such as, “Just Dance” and “Poker Face”
Gaga is known to have been inspired by glam rockers such as David Bowie and Queen. Fashion is also a huge part of her persona and essential to her performances.
Lady Gaga attributes her early success to her gay fans and is considered by many to be a rising gay icon. She states the turning point in her career was due to her loyal gay following.
After Lady GaGa’s international breakthrough with “Just Dance,” the next single “Poker Face” was an even bigger hit. Poker face topped singles charts across the board with its snazzy pop pulse and club-worthy beat. Lady GaGa is a perfect example of someone who wanted to be rich, famous and in demand. With the hard work and effort she has put in, she is now living the dream that many aspire to.
