If you are wondering what the richest game in the world is or are just thinking on what sport to invest in, you no longer have to. A recent study showed that American football with its highest professional league in the United States, the National Football League (NFL), is the richest sport in the world.
Sure, England’s Manchester United are the most valuable sports team in the world valued at $1.8 billion while Real Madrid and Arsenal are worth about $1 billion. But just four soccer squads have reached the $ 1 billion mark while 19 NFL teams are worth over $ 1 billion.
The Dallas Cowboys valued at $1.65 billion are the second most valuable sports franchise in the world and the most valuable – in the NFL. Moreover, the club is expected to bring $100 million more when it will move to a new stadium. New York’s Jets and Giants are $450 million behind them, and their income is only going to increase.
Even the most unlucky (or unfortunate) teams with a massive debt can gain a lot of money, especially if they own a stadium. The Washington Redskins use their FedEx Field as a money-maker, getting their fair share of money off parking, tickets and practices. The New England Patriots get much of their revenue from a retail and entertainment complex built on the grounds of their home Gillette Stadium, and the Dallas Cowboys want to follow their example and do the same thing with their stadium in Arlington.
And though soccer is the world’s No. 1 spectator sport, NFL teams seem to be much better at making money.
